  • Endometrial biopsy is the removal of a small piece of tissue from the lining of the uterus. An instrument is passed through the cervix to reach the lining of the uterus and the sample is removed from the endometrium.


  • Some of the indications for an endometrial biopsy include determining the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, testing for infections, or determining the cause of infertility.


  • Risks of endometrial biopsy include infection, creating a hole (perforation) in the uterus, tearing of the cervix, bleeding or cramping.
